What is Right to Buy?
Right to Buy is a scheme that allows social housing tenants to buy the property they live in from their landlord at a discount.
If you are a tenant of Elmbridge Housing Trust and your tenancy transferred to Elmbridge Housing Trust from Elmbridge Borough Council in March 2000, then you may have the 'Preserved Right to Buy'.
As of 2 April 2012, the maximum discount available under Right to Buy has now increased from £38,000 to £75,000.
The discount you can get is based on:
- how long you've been a tenant
- where you live
- the type of property you're buying (a flat or a house)
If you qualify you may want to contact your landlord in order to see what their policy is in relation to this.
