Rivers

Elmbridge boasts attractive riverside locations beside the Thames, Mole and Wey which have a great deal to offer visitors, including boat trips, rowing, fishing or a stroll along their scenic banks.

One of the country's principal rivers, the Thames forms the northern and western boundaries of Elmbridge from Weybridge through Walton to Molesey and Thames Ditton. There is ample opportunity for riverside walks with the chance to spot birdlife and watch the river boats go by.

Particularly popular areas are Cowey Sale at Walton on Thames and the towpath at West Molesey, which makes a pleasant walk to the riverside parade at East Molesey looking across to Hampton Court Palace. Molesey and Sunbury locks are fascinating spots to watch the river traffic.

River Mole

The Mole is a tributary of the Thames, rising in West Sussex and joining the Thames at East Molesey. Spots to enjoy a walk by this pretty river include Hersham Riverside Park and The Ledges, a wooded part of the |Esher Commons. |Cobham Mill is situated on the Mole and is open every second Sunday afternoon of the month during April to October 2-5pm.

River Wey

Another tributary of the Thames, the Wey was canalised in the 17th century to form the Wey Navigation, through which barges transported goods including corn, timber and coal.

The Wey joins the Thames at Weybridge and is today a peaceful place to walk and enjoy nature.
