Water is a predominant theme in Elmbridge.
The borough is bordered by the River Thames to the north, the River Wey to the west, while the River Mole meanders through the middle of the borough from south to north.
The riverside areas offer some of the most attractive spots in north Surrey so why not wander along the towpaths, take a relaxing boat trip or stop at a waterside pub?
There has been a watermill in Cobham at least since 1086 when three were recorded in the Domesday Book. Today there is but one, built in 1823, on Mill Road Cobham (grid reference TQ 112 599). It is the only fully working watermill in Surrey and it can be seen in grinding the grain as in times past.
Opening hours are 2pm to 5pm on the second Sunday in each month from April to October inclusive with guides in attendance. At 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm there will be short talks on the mill and milling with guides to answer your questions. You can see how the River Mole is controlled at the weirs, the fish ladder for salmon and hopefully the
wildlife.
Admission is free.
The mill can be opened for private parties by prior arrangement with, if required, a talk tailored to specific requirements.
