Do You Qualify for a Council Tax discount?

Depending on your circumstances there may be a Single Person's Discount available for you to claim. Do not delay claiming a reduced bill or you may have to pay more than you need.

If you are the only resident (over 18 years) living in your household - then please complete the application form below for a 25% discount.

If there are other adults in the household who are 'disregarded' (see categories below), you may still qualify for a 25% discount, so fill out the form and send it to us.

If all the adults in the household, including yourself, can be 'disregarded', you may qualify for a 50% discount.

The main disregarded adult groups are:-

1. Full time students / student nurses
2. Persons over 18 for whom child benefit is payable
3. Persons on a youth training scheme or apprentices
4. Persons with severe mental impairment
5. Some carers and care workers
6. Members of a religious community
7. Members of international headquarters and defence staff
8. Visiting forces personnel
9. Prisoners

Can You Pay Less?

• If you (or other adults in your home - but not your partner) are on a low income or in receipt of income support or job seekers allowance, you may be entitled to help with your payments through the council tax benefit scheme. Please contact the council's benefits office for further advice (their Helpline is 01372 474060).
• If you, or a member of your household, isdisabled (or carer for that person) you may be able to get a reduction in the council tax you pay.
• If you are also paying Council Tax on a property elsewhere, please contact the local taxation office as you may qualify for a discount.
