Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood WatchWe live and work in a low crime area, and crimes such as burglary are fairly low in Elmbridge. However, we also live in a relatively affluent area which can sometimes be an enticement to travelling criminals. Local police do a very valuable job, but they cannot be in all places at all times. One of the biggest deterrents to property crime is Neighbourhood Watch (NHW).

You and your neighbours can be the 'eyes and the ears' of your local neighbourhood and you are far more likely to notice anything or anyone out of place. We are not asking you to do the job of local police but to work with your neighbours by setting up or participating in a NHW scheme.

Official research undertaken on behalf of Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) shows that NHW areas suffer from 79% less incidents of crime. The study also shows that NHW is valued by the community at large, frequently for the reassurance it provides. NHW can be set up by members of the local community and its objectives are to prevent crime, anti social-behaviour, reduce the fear of crime, reduce the incidences of domestic fires and encourage community cohesion and to improve the quality of life for residents and tenants.
