Community Safety

What different people mean by "Community Safety"

"The combined effort by a range of local bodies...to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, in order to make the area safe to live and work."
"The freedom for people to go about their daily lives without fear."
"A community able to live without fear of crime and disorder."
"Keeping people safe within the community."
"Multi-agency working, to deal with the root causes of crime and address the needs and concerns of residents."
"A co-ordinated policy involving the Police, Local Authorities and the community, to reduce the level of crime and disorder."

To achieve "Community Safety" the Council needs to work with partners, public and the voluntary sector . To achieve this, the Elmbridge Community Safety Partnership was formed in 1998. You can find out about the |Elmbridge Community Safety Partnership and its members.

There is a requirement to use the findings of the Strategic Assessment to develop strategies and action plans to reduce crime and disorder in the borough, in the form of a 'Partnership Plan'. The Strategic Assessment assesses crime, disorder, anti-social behaviour and drug/alcohol misuse within the borough which will be updated on an annual basis.
