Investors in People

|Investors in People is the most successful framework for business improvement through people in the UK. It is used by more than 30,000 organisations both in the public and private sector, in over 50 countries.

The practical benefits of working towards and becoming an Investors in People organisation are proven and many. They include improved organisational performance, greater productivity, a sharper competitive edge, and increased employee engagement.

The Investors in People framework has three core principles:

  • Plan: Develop strategies to improve performance.
  • Do: Take action to improve performance.
  • Review: Evaluate and improve performance.

The three principles breakdown into ten indicators. The standard is all about getting the strategy right, enhancing employee engagement, improving management effectiveness and evaluating what's working best so you can continuously improve performance.

Elmbridge Borough Council Results

Following assessment in 2008, Elmbridge Borough Council were awarded the Investors in People Gold Standard, making them one of the first local authorities in England to achieve this level of recognition. This demonstrates that the Council is operating at the highest levels of people management.

To gain the Investors in People Gold accreditation, the Council was assessed on ten separate areas of the organisation, from business strategy to people management strategy, via interviews.

Elmbridge Borough Council achieved the esteemed title of Investors in People Champion in 2009. With less than 86 Champions nationally, Champion status is a significant achievement for the Council and highlights the skills and abilities of our people.

Champion status is awarded for three years to organisations that have been outstanding in promoting the people related values and principles of the Standard and who have led by example in the way they manage and develop their own people.

As an IiP Champion, we are working closely with other organisations who are interested in improving their performance to promote good practice in people management and development.
