Community Connect
Providing support to local groups for local projects
From May 2011 to March 2012, Elmbridge Borough Council launched a Community Connect scheme to promote community-based initiatives.
What is the Community Connect scheme?
The Community Connect scheme provided grants to small groups of residents, community groups and voluntary groups to allow neighbourhoods to take control of local projects that matter to them in partnership with their local ward Councillor.
Each Elmbridge Borough Councillor had access to funds of £500 to award to local projects.
What sort of projects received the grant?
Grants were for local projects which relate to one or more of the Elmbridge Sustainable Community Strategy priorities:
- Promoting and Enhancing the Natural Environment
- Promoting Health and Well-being
- Enhancing the Local Economy
- Building Safer Communities
- Fostering Inclusion
- Partnership Development
Some of the projects awarded a Community Connect grant include: a community bench for Hinchley Wood memorial gardens, a grit bin for local residents in Long Ditton, bike pods for a local school, community get-togethers for stroke recoverers, a tree for the Diamond Jubilee and a community clear-up day on a local piece of land. |See a complete list of the Community Connect grants awarded.
